Roadfeel
About Roadfeel and our sources
Independent, sourced and plain-spoken: here’s how these pages are made.
What Roadfeel is
Roadfeel (路感) is an independent study app for US driver’s license tests: the rules of the road, the written test and how the drive test is scored. It isn’t a driving school or a driver education course, and it doesn’t issue certificates. California is live and New York is in beta. These pages are the free, public part: the rules, the test formats and a few sample questions per topic.
Who makes Roadfeel
Roadfeel is made and maintained by an independent developer. Questions and corrections go to support@roadfeel.app.
How the content is made and checked
The content is organized with AI assistance. Each rule is checked against the official text it links to: almost always the state’s driver’s handbook, otherwise another official state page or the law itself. Each page shows the date it was last checked, and each rule shows its source, so you can check it too.
Not affiliated with any DMV
We aren’t part of, or endorsed by, the California DMV, the New York State DMV or any government agency. To apply for a permit or a license, or to book a test, use the DMV’s own site: dmv.ca.gov or dmv.ny.gov.
How we write the rules
Each rule is restated in our own words from the state’s driver handbook and other official pages, mostly DMV’s, with a link to the section it comes from. When a law changed after the handbook was written, we say so next to the rule.
Practice questions
Our questions are original. We don’t copy the handbooks or DMV’s sample tests; we link to DMV’s own free sample tests instead. They are not real test questions, and we can’t promise any result.
When official sources disagree
Some DMV pages contradict each other, for example on California’s drive-test retest fee: $9 on the fee table, $7 on the license page. We show both versions and link them, and we mark anything we couldn’t confirm.
Copyright
Restated in our own words from the California Driver Handbook (DL 600, rev. 6/2025) and dmv.ca.gov. The handbook is licensed CC BY-NC 4.0, which bars commercial reuse, so we don’t reproduce it; we quote short phrases and link to it.
Restated in our own words from the New York State Driver’s Manual (MV-21) and other official pages, mostly dmv.ny.gov. The manual is © NYS DMV with all rights reserved, so we don’t reproduce it; we quote short phrases and link to it.
